Indiana Hoosiers at Michigan State Spartans Betting Preview

The biggest surprise so far in the Big Ten, and maybe in all of college football, is that the Indiana Hoosiers are 3-0 and ranked No. 10 in the latest AP poll. After beating traditional powers Penn State and Michigan, the Hoosiers head to Michigan State this week to take on the 1-2 Spartans.

Kickoff is set for Noon ET from Spartan Stadium in East Lansing, Mich., and will be televised on ABC.

This series has been traditionally dominated by the Spartans, who lead 48-16-2 with a three-game win streak. Last year, the Spartans won 40-31 at home, and Indiana’s last win in the series came in Bloomington in 2016.

The Hoosiers are 2-19 in East Lansing since 1970 and have lost eight straight at Spartan Stadium since a win in 2001.

Indiana Hoosiers Betting Outlook: Spread the Ball Around

Indiana is not only 3-0 straight up so far this season, but it is also 3-0 ATS. Indiana beat Penn State and Michigan at home as underdogs and the over in 3-0 in its three games as well.

Quarterback Michael Penix Jr. torched Michigan last week for 342 yards and three touchdowns while completing 30-of-50 passes. On the season, he has 750 passing yards in three games with seven touchdowns and one interception.

Indiana has rushed for just under 100 yards per game this season, with Stevie Scott III leading the way. Scott has 235 yards with four touchdowns on the campaign, while Penix has also scored twice.

Eight players have caught passes this season for the Hoosiers, and four have scored through the air. Whop Philyor leads the receivers with 21 catches for 252 yards and a touchdown, while Ty Fryfogle has 13 catches for 224 yards and two scores. Tight end Peyton Hendershot has a team-best three receiving touchdowns.

Michigan State Spartans Betting Outlook: Protect The Ball

After upsetting rival Michigan on the road two weeks ago, the Spartans laid an egg at Iowa last Saturday with a 49-7 blowout loss. Quarterback Rocky Lombardi threw three interceptions, and the Spartans ran for just 59 yards on 32 carries.

On the season, Lombardi has 869 passing yards in three games with six touchdowns and five interceptions. He did not turn the ball over in the win against Michigan while passing for three scores and 323 yards.

The only rushing touchdown for the Spartans so far this season came from punter/tight end Tyler Hunt. Running back Jordon Simmons has 132 yards on 37 carries, while Connor Heyward has 23 carries for 56 yards.

Wideout Jalen Nailor has 12 catches for 271 yards and a touchdown on the season, while freshman Ricky White has 10 catches for 223 yards and a score.

Indiana at Michigan State Betting Analysis

The No. 10 Hoosiers are favored by 7.5 points on the road with a total set at 52 points.

Indiana has played flawless through three games this season and responded to every challenge. The Spartans offense has been lackluster, ranking 119th in rushing and 100th in scoring. With cool weather expected in East Lansing this weekend, expect points to be at a premium.
