Most bettors putting money on Trey Lance to win NFL Offensive Rookie of the year

Training camp for the San Francisco 49ers is less than two weeks away. The quarterback competition will be one of the most intriguing, with all eyes on incumbent starter Jimmy Garoppolo and No. 3 overall pick Trey Lance.

Garoppolo will be kept by head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch at least through next season. The two have stated that they want to start Garoppolo against the Detroit Lions in Week 1, but that might change if Lance outperforms the veteran during training camp.

Bettors are placing their money on the latter, according to BetMGM. Lance has gotten most of the bets on who will win the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. Lance possesses all the physical attributes necessary to be a successful NFL quarterback. He's a dual-threat player who excelled in ball security during his collegiate career at North Dakota State.

If Garoppolo is injured again and is forced to miss significant time, Lance's chances of winning the award rise dramatically. If Garoppolo stays healthy and performs at the same level as he did last season, Lance will likely see little action. However, as previously stated, Jimmy G has only made it past Week 3 once in the previous three seasons.

Lance is without a doubt the future quarterback for the 49ers, but whether he will be a key contributor in his year rookie year remains to be seen.
