NCAA News and Notes: Top Players in the 2021 Transfer Portal

After an unprecedented 2020 college football season, the country was left with some heroes and champions, but also some very unhappy stars, the top-quality talent on teams that just didn’t pan out last year. And some of these players will be looking to make a change of scenery for 2021. So today, we will be counting down the top college football players switching teams this offseason.

#1: Tyler Shough, QB, Oregon:

Shough had the extremely tough job of replacing star NFL rookie Justin Herbert this year, which comes with a lot of pressure. However, Shough did very well with his new role, throwing for 1,559 yards and 13 touchdowns with only 6 touchdowns and completing 63.5 % of his passes. However, though Shough looked very promising this year, the Oregon Ducks as a whole did not. The Ducks went 4-3 this year and got blown out by Iowa State in the Fiesta Bowl. So after finishing last season 6th in the country with a 12-2 record and securing a Rose Bowl victory over rival Wisconsin.

So clearly, Shough is not happy with the Ducks’ recent struggles and does not see success coming in Oregon, especially given that the Ducks finished their bowl game with competing QB Anthony Brown in the game. Since Brown is returning to Oregon next season and is said to have the starting edge, where will Shough go? Surprisingly, there have been absolutely no rumors or talks of Shough’s plans anywhere, so his future school is a complete mystery to everyone, which is extremely rare on today’s internet.

#2: N’Kosi Perry, QB, Miami:

After being the Miami starter for the last two years and throwing for 2,000 yards and 24 touchdowns with a 52.4% completion rate, Perry was forced to the sidelines this year by new Miami star quarterback D’Eriq King. King was a bonafide star this year, leading Miami to the Cheez-It Bowl and a Top-25 appearance. Given King’s recent success, Perry knows that he has no future in Miami, and after entering and pulling out of the portal in January, has now officially entered the transfer portal.

Though no one knows exactly what Perry is thinking, he has shown extreme promise in his Miami tenure. So big-name schools without a clear quarterback star, like Clemson, Alabama, and Florida State, could be in the running.

#3: David Bailey, RB, Boston College:

Bailey is a star power-back. There is no way around that fact. He ran for 1,600 yards and 16 touchdowns in his BC time, boasting 5.7 yards-per-carry during the time too. However, Boston College is by no means a star football school, and a star back has no reason to be there.

He stands at 6 feet tall with 236-pounds of beast, and could be popped into any top system and thrive, maybe even helping a contender. All that being said, Bailey knows that he is a star and is doing the right thing for his own career by getting far away from the North-East.
