NFL News: Notable Injuries Roundup from Week 12

Fortunately, the infirmary fallout from Week 12 around the NFL isn’t as star-studded as some previous Sundays. Considering the league has lost some high-profile names like Saquon Barkley, Christian McCaffrey, Michael Thomas, Dak Prescott, Drew Brees, Jimmy Garoppolo, George Kittle, and Joe Burrow for extended periods, fantasy lineups across the country went mostly unharmed.

This past Sunday’s notable injury list may not feature the prominence of those listed above, but there were several setbacks that could have teams going to Plan B in Week 13. Let’s take a look.

DANIEL JONES, QB, NEW YORK GIANTS

Jones injured his hamstring against the Bengals in the third quarter Sunday, and while he returned for a few plays, he ultimately limped off to the sideline and did not return.

Giants head coach Joe Judge was optimistic about Jones after the game, and that proved prophetic. A Monday report indicated that the second-year QB avoided a significant injury, with the MRI showing only a sprain, and he’ll have an outside chance of playing next week. The team will know more about his status if and when he’s able to get on the practice field Wednesday and Thursday.

Colt McCoy, who presumably would get the start against Seattle, relieved Jones against Cincinnati and finished 6-10 for 31 yards. Jones threw for 213 yards and rushed for another 19 before exiting.

JOSH JACOBS, RB, LAS VEGAS RAIDERS

The hope is Jacobs also avoided catastrophe after suffering an ankle injury on a lost fumble in the Raiders’ loss to the Falcons. The injury is being said to look worse than it actually was, but the team held him out of the rest of the matchup, perhaps in part to the lopsided margin.

Jacobs has yet to miss a game in his sophomore season, rushing for the fifth-most yards in the NFL, though the 27 he garnered Sunday was his second-fewest this year. Devontae Booker would be in line for an increased workload should Jacobs miss next Sunday’s favorable matchup with the winless Jets, though Monday afternoon tests confirmed that it was just a sprain. Be sure to monitor his progress as the week goes along.

DJ MOORE, WR, CAROLINA PANTHERS

Moore may have the worst luck of the bunch after exiting Sunday’s loss to the Vikings on a cart in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. The Panthers’ receiver was leaping for a touchdown and came down awkwardly on the attempt, in an injury of the non-contact variety.

Moore had four catches for 61 yards in the one-point defeat, giving him 50 receptions on the year for 924 on the season. Carolina is on a bye next week, so the hope is that it’s not severe enough to miss any game action. The Panthers also expect McCaffrey to return for their Week 14 game with the Broncos after missing much of the season with ankle and shoulder injuries. If Moore misses any games, expect an uptick in production from the other two starting wide receivers, Curtis Samuel and Robby Anderson.
